Luxurious Freedom – GOLD

The Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners of the prestigious design competition have been announced, showcasing the best in accessible and luxurious bathroom designs.

In the Gold category, Katherine Kawaguchi of Guchi Interior Design transformed a closed-off and inconvenient master bath into a highly functional, safe, and beautiful universal space. The client, who is paralyzed from the waist down, requested a design that would cater to her needs as well as her family’s. The remodeled master bath features an open space with wheelchair access, a lounger and curbless shower for luxury and utility, waterproof walls and flooring, and many other thoughtful Universal Design elements.

In the Silver category, Madeleine Dymling of Flatbrook & Co. created a light and elegant master bath for an elderly couple, one of whom had Parkinson’s disease. The bathroom features wheelchair- and walker-accessible doorways, a curbless double shower, custom cast cement flooring, and a freestanding soaking tub for added luxury.

In the Bronze category, Jonas Carnemark of CARNEMARK design+build designed a master suite on the ground floor for a client with a progressive condition that would eventually require a wheelchair. The luxurious wet room features a rainhead shower, hand-held shower faucet, large soaking tub, and Universal Design elements for both accessibility and aesthetics.

These award-winning designs showcase the perfect blend of accessibility, functionality, and luxury in bathroom design, setting a new standard for inclusive and beautiful spaces.
